My interest in print has developed through years of creating the family Xmas card. These have always depicted events or places experienced during that year. The process dictated by facilities available at the time, the story and complexity of image has included linocut, woodcut, photocopy and crayon, silk screen and acrylic stencil, etching and finger paint. I believe it is right to give something solid, personal, not mass produced and which may show evidence of its own process.
The first challenge is to rationalise the image to suit the process and so develop a strong composition. Then combine this with simple two colour contrasts for maximum impact.
I have recently acquired an ancient screw press which will print a wood cut up to size A3 which is presenting new possibilities.
